For the past year since the election, our country has been in an all out fight over each side of congress blaming the other side of breaking the law and conducting their job unfairly. Now this is nothing new, but it has heated up more than normal. This is the first time where an elected president is being attempted to being impeached by Democrats even before he was elected.

Somehow, we have gotten so messed up on the definition of what is “Just & Fair” that we think it means, “It’s just and fair if it goes my way”.

It seems to appear that after one year of investigating President Trump for collusion that the evidence is pointing to Hilary and the Democratic Party sneaking around and using the government agencies to attack and undermine our democracy and not President Trump. They appear to have broken the laws of our country and they don’t like being held accountable.

That being said, the Democrats are yelling “Foul” and demanding the second in command at the FBI, Andrew McCabe, be reinstated after being fired for lying to the FBI. Funny that he has been the guy in charge of prosecution towards those who have lied to him and the FBI …. and sent them to jail with fines! Is he demanding a different standard because it is more important than the ones he held guilty?

I know some of you don’t want to hear any more about politics and what’s going on in our country, but this is important. Let me explain.

Remember when you were a kid and someone was picking kids for a game and the people in charge were unfairly selecting the best players for one side so that there was no way for your side to possibly win?

Or you were applying for a job, but a person was selected for the job who was less qualified for the job than you, but they had a “special buddy” who pulled strings to get them the job and not you?

Our courts have a symbol of a blind lady holding up scales to demonstrate that our courts are founded on which is impartial justice for all. Everyone will get a fair hearing, and that justice will have objectivity. Funny thing is we all know that although the courts “say” they will be impartial, in reality it all depends on the strength of lawyers and not the truth. Sad to say our court system, like politics, knows that impartiality is crucial, but we seem to have a problem living it out. It doesn’t matter if its resolving disputes with our kids or in the courts, we have a problem with being fair.

Here is another real problem in all this – mercy and justice seem to be in conflict. If we extend mercy it seems to be unjust. If we deal out justice we seem to lack the desire and need to extend mercy.

Without a reliable standard and reliable people administering such a good systems of justice, it all but falls apart. There is no law that will adequately make things fair for all, and yet we so desperately need it and need it now.

As long as man conducts himself with the scales of justice only leaning in his favor, we all loose. We as a nation are moving in this direction really fast.

God told a prophet long ago three things man needs to follow or the whole human experience goes down the drain. Every nation and power in history fell apart because corruption took over and called it justice. Here is that advise God gave so long ago:

Micah 6:8 (NASB)He has told you, O man, what is good;
And what does the LORD require of you
But to do justice, to love kindness,
And to walk humbly with your God?

Now the Bible is a big book with lots of instruction, but it seemed God was boiling life down to these three requirements. Maybe we could work on just these three?

1) Do Justly – Don’t let bias attitudes rule your judgements and actions with others, no matter what the problem is. Same standard for all. Be fair.

2) Love Kindness – The word kindness can be translated “Mercy”. It’s the idea that when its safe to do mercy, let mercy override justice. We have come to want mercy even when it is more harmful to extend it, like giving mercy to someone when they have no intention of being thankful or changing. Giving mercy then would be foolish.

3) Walk Humbly With God – This is the big one. As Americans in particular, we don’t want someone else telling us what to do and that goes for God as well. Is there any wonder we are heading for a social cliff in this country?

God set the example for humanity. He sacrificed everything to bring mercy to humanity.

John 3:16-19 (NASB)
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

[17] For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
[18] He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
[19] This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.”

We desperately need and desire mercy from God, but if we are not willing to do the same with each other, if we are not willing to seek God’s help to change for the better ….. the only thing we end up getting is judgement.

Hebrews 9:27 (NASB)
And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment.

So dear friends-

Will we keep judging unfairly or seek the requirements that the prophet Micah gave us from God?
Will we humbly ask God for forgiveness and seek to live as he has instructed? The alternative is a very fearful thing.
