Over the last 100 years or so, our lives have been so shaped by the huge technological advancements that we can start to believe man has figured out the universe pretty well and we don’t need God anymore.

This “belief” in our own intelligence and the power of huge super computers has made our culture believe that a belief in a supernatural creator is obsolete, and only for the weak-minded amongst us. That is until you pull back the “green curtain” like in the wizard of Oz.

I grew up watching the Wizard of Oz every year. It was in color, as few movies on tv were. In the movie there seems to be this “powerful” wizard that knew everything and could do anything. The problem was, he couldn’t. He was just a smart guy with a lot of fancy gadgets the “wowed” people.

Now I’m not the smartest guy around, but find it frustrating when “Smart” people with PhD’s seem to want the average person to believe they have figured everything out in life, so who needs God? These smart people are implying they can take God’s job and do better.

For me, I find the scriptures more reliable, even if I can’t prove everything. Remember I’m not the smartest guy, but I do have a source that seems to stand the test of time even when scientist try to say the Bible isn’t reliable. Like God making the earth in 6 days, or Noah building a boat for a 125 years before a world-wide flood. Scientists have been trying to disprove the scriptures for years and every time they think they have a silver bullet their theory falls apart.

Here is what the Bible says about the world we live in. The theory of evolution would say this is wrong.

Psalms 19:1-2 (NASB)The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
Day to day pours forth speech,
And night to night reveals knowledge.

So the Bible say God made the heaven and earth, and scientist say the “Big Bang” created it. Funny how the world is so designed as to be so interrelated and interdependent that we could see there was intentional design involved and not an explosion behind its creation. Accident or on purpose?

Colossians 1:16-17 (NASB)For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

This passage says that Jesus not only created life as we know it, he holds all things together by his current power. Scientists seem to want to convince us that this is all wrong. That we don’t need a creator to explain how the universe stays together, but look what they can’t seem to figure out with all their knowledge and super computers in one simple basic law of science.

Gravity – (two small parts of articles on gravity on the web)

1st
“Of all the forces in the universe, gravity is the one we’re most intimately familiar with. Every time we roll out of bed, lift a coffee cup, or even just stand there, we feel its effects. So it may surprise you to learn that of all the forces in the universe, gravity is also the most difficult to explain scientifically.”

2nd
“All that having been said, we still don’t know “why” matter and energy has gravity, only that it does. Given that as a starting point, we know lots about gravity already but still not as much as we would like to, and it continues to be an active area of research.

Gravity is one of the most familiar forces of nature, but also one of the most resistant to a proper, complete, and satisfying explanation. Everyone knew all about gravity on Earth for as long as people knew about anything, but it took Newton to realize that this same force is what keeps the Moon in orbit around the Earth and the planets around the Sun, and was responsible for the tides. Newton’s tremendous achievement, helped by the precise astronomical data and Kepler’s inferences, describes gravity’s behavior for most practical purposes, but fails to answer why there is gravity in the first place; it merely says that the strength of gravity depends on how much mass there is and how far away you are from this mass”.

Gravity is one of the most basic laws of the universe and yet science just cant figure out why. They can understand what it does, and how it reacts, but not why it’s there. Maybe the scripture are true!

Questions:

1) Have you let the knowledge of science shame you into feeling too foolish to believe in a God who loves you?

2) Do you put more day-to-day trust in technology and our culture like cars, electricity, the local grocery store than in the creator who knows you better than anyone and reaches out to help you today?

Appreciate the technology you have, but trust your Heavenly Father most of all and follow the advise in the word of God daily.
