I generally try to stay away from political statements or challenges on Facebook, but feel compelled to challenge believers to not lose perspective while cheering their candidate during this election cycle.

Let me state upfront, that if we go through another 4-8 years of selfish and arrogant leadership in this country, we will see lawlessness increase, that will undermine our foundation as a country that we may never recover from.

What does that mean? Not only will the standard of living crumble, but our children will pay for our sins in the moral and spiritual realms. We can’t keep becoming more selfish and evil and expect God to close a bind eye. God brought great judgements to nations when they headed in the same direction we are going in. God has blessed this nation because of the good we have done and when the scales are found wanting, judgement will come.

One of the first areas to fall away is loosing a heart of compassion and generosity. Many of the candidates running for president are so wanting in the area of giving they are acting like non-Christians. Interesting that Cruz claims to be a solid Christian and yet gives less that 1% to charity or the church. Actions speak louder than words. Let’s not forget Paul’s challenge to Christians while under Rome and Nero.

1 Timothy 2:1

First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,
[2] for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
[3] This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
[4] who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

While I believe we should vote and help the candidates we believe in become elected, the most important work we should do is ask God to move us as a nation to the place we should be and not be so foolish as to believe that political solutions are the main and only way to change this nation. By the way, crabbing doesn’t help either.

For God’s sake, look at the candidate you like and seek the Lord for His call on that person. Second, look at what they emulate and ask if they back up the characteristics that you admire in your own life. If they are proud, boastful, and can’t back up their statements, drop them. Let’s stop being dumb sheep!
We have lived with a president and congress that tell us what we want to hear without the fruit to back up their words.

Lastly, let’s remember the word that should guide our behavior. Let’s keep first things first.

2 Chr 2:14
“If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
[15] “Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place.

May we humbly seek God first by praying for his help in changing our nation and then do what He shows us to do both in supporting a candidate and voting.
