Sometimes we bite off more than we can chew, or we start some project and in the middle of it we wish we didn’t. I think God designed life with this in mind.

If we always knew the price we would pay starting something, we might not attempt it. Think of all the times you’ve said to yourself, “Why did I think I could do this”? The fact you didn’t realize the whole picture caused to you try something you might never have done before. Sometime ignorance is helpful to get us “unstuck” from where we are.

Take a baby learning to walk. They are so excited to walk like their parents, and the parents saying “you can do it”, causes them to try. Even after falling they realize its not that bad. My dippers are padding my fall so why not! 😳

So, here’s what I’m after: Getting out of your comfort zone probably will cause you to grow. Growth doesn’t always feel good in the process, but in the end it advances us in our life’s journey.

As a Christian, I like to think I can be like King David in my walk as a Christ follower. Like the passage in Psalms when he talks about God being his rock.

Psalms 62:5-7 (NASB)

My soul, wait in silence for God only,
For my hope is from Him.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.
On God my salvation and my glory rest;
The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.

This passage sounds great, except God being our rock implies we have chosen to anchor ourselves to Him, which implies we have given up holding onto other things for our security. Like the picture of the rock climber, sometimes in the middle of life’s journey we wonder if committing ourselves totally to God was a good choice. Hanging off the face of a cliff with only a thin rope and a piece of metal stuck in a rock face becomes really scary in the middle of the climb. Sometime trusting God in a storm can be scary, but its the best place to be – Trusting Him.

Here’s the deal, you and I will never know real growth in our lives unless we trust God with our future and our next decision. Deciding we don’t have to be controlled by fear happens because we know the Scriptures tell us God is like a solid rock – we can trust him with our future, our money and everything in between. Remember, trust is a daily choice, not a one time deal were now you just coast.

So if you’re in the middle of a climb on the rock face, don’t decide to cut your rope. Keep climbing ’til you reach the summit and thank God he was your “Solid Rock” that kept you from falling.

Jude 24 (NASB)Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy.
