Watching the riots in Berkeley University California today, I am saddened for the place of my birth. I grew up in the violent 60s & 70s near Berkeley California, so I know the nature of the culture, but is still saddens me to see California continue to spiral down into spiritual darkness.

Jesus explained that he was sent to deliver man from darkness, but man often refuse to embrace deliverance. Often people are not in spiritual darkness because of ignorance, but rather because of refusal to move towards the light of God.

Look what Jesus said in John 3:19-21

“This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”

Paul said we really are not just witnessing political and natural war in life, but actual the core problem is spiritual warfare.

Eph 6:11-12
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Growing up in California, the culture was shifting left because of what was being taught in public schools. Not only the public schools, but the universitys as well. When the University of Santa Cruz was built, you could automatically see the shift in culture. The liberal position tried to shame those who were conservative until the conservatives felt ashamed and fearful to engage the debate over what was right or wrong. Thus was built a liberal mindset and values not only in California, but throughout the US. This boldness for “Political Correctness” has not occupied the American heart except were people have a higher standard through scripture. What was presented as the desire to treat people with respect and kindness was a smoke screen for a diabolical deception. From childhood to adulthood people were taught not to judge when in truth people were taught not to think critically.

The riots we are seeing today are the real outcome of years of programming. The heart of the left hates being told there is a moral standard they will be held accountable to one day. They want God out of the schools, governments, hospitals and culture. To believe in God means there is a standard man should live by and the godless wants no such accountability. The riots show us that the left never believed in tolerance only in promoting their own will without God or anyone else saying their behavior was wrong.

We are at a crossroad in this country. Either the true believer in a redemptive God will start acting like the salt and light we were saved to be or we will be afraid and keep silent like we have for the most part for the last 50 years. Then we will see our country disintegrate further into darkness and anarchy.

Ask yourself the question:

Am I living like Christ intended?

Do I reflect the heart of God to a lost and dying world?

Do I play it safe to protect my liberties above all others?

The answer tells us whether we are living for God or living for ourselves, and if we are not true Christian’s, but just religious followers. Not Christ followers, jut religious followers.

May God forgive all of us and free us to love others as Christ intended.

Loving God with you all,

Pastor Dale
