For the next two weeks, members of Saratoga Abundant Life Church will be fasting and praying for themselves and for those they love, to seek the favor of God as we all head into 2016. I thought for the next few weeks, I would post scripture each day, and share some of the things I feel God is putting on my heart, as Sue and I participate in this fast, though we are currently living in North Carolina.

May I encourage others of you to put aside your various opinions on food and other such topics for maybe a better focus? Say, hearing from God?

Is there is ever a time in our lives that we need to hear from God more than now? Too often we engage in conversations, and give our opinions on things that move us, which have no eternal value. We talk about politics, guns, and what not, which I’m also interested in, yet maybe we could fuel our souls with words that change us for the better rather than words that just take up space. Words that the Holy Spirit give us to make us the people who our Heavenly Father wants to create inside us.

Let me be clear, I’m not judging anyone for the content on their Facebook pages, just asking for a short period of time to “fast” from thing of less importance.

Often in the Bible, Godly men and women realized they need to focus on hearing and seeking God’s help in life and therefore fasted and prayed.

In 2 Chronicles 20:3, King Jehoshaphat was so alarmed about the dangers ahead of his nation, so he called for a special fast for the whole nation.

What if each of us saw the real dangers ahead of our lives, enough to cause us to set aside the things we enjoy, because we needed greater focus and we wanted God’s healing in a special way?

I have been a believer since 1969, and have fasted many times, yet I have noticed that I don’t fast as often as I use too. It’s not because there aren’t great danger all around, I think it’s just because I’ve gotten lax in seeing the values I once practiced.

Church history always had men and women who would see things more clearly and realized they need to sound the warning to fast & pray.

I want to be one of those who calls other believers to practiced what they once believed, and ask the Holy Spirit for special help. If we once again start practicing the spiritual discipline of fasting & praying, God would move in our lives as He did when we first knew Him. Let’s not be foolish and say next week or next month or some other time, but right now.

Fasting & Praying for the change that matters.
